VERY PLEASING 2022 SACE RESULTS
Congratulations to the ninety-five Year 12 students who successfully completed their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) at our school in 2022.
Congratulations to our Salisbury East High School DUX, Sonthari Dilen Keam, who achieved a raw ATAR of 98.80 (top 1.2% of the state) with a Year 12 ranking of 99.95.

2023 START OF THE YEAR INFORMATION
We will have a staggered start to the 2023 school year.
Year 7 and 12 students will commence on Monday, January 30. This will support our Year 7 students to familiarise themselves with the school and spend some quality time with their mentor teachers and peers. The day will have a strong focus on developing a sense of belonging. Our Year 12 students will engage in some targeted information sessions that will prepare them for the year ahead.
Year 8, 9, 10 and 11 students will commence on Tuesday, January 31 with some year-level assemblies and information sessions.
Salisbury East Alternative Learning (SEAL) students will also commence on Tuesday, January 31 with some separate information sessions for new and returning students.
2023 TIMETABLE
While there are no changes to our start time (8.40 am) and finish time (3.05 pm (2.15pm on Thursdays), students will notice some other changes.
On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday, the school day will commence with a 15-minute morning ‘check-in’ with the mentor class. This supports students to be ready to learn and provides an opportunity for the development of strong relationships with the mentor teacher and other students in the class. On Wednesdays and Fridays, students have extended mentoring sessions immediately before recess time. These will focus on the mandated Child Protection Curriculum, as well as addressing well-being, the development of study skills and regular year level activities, including assemblies.
The timetable structure is displayed below:
CHANGES TO OUR MOBILE PHONE POLICY
As signalled in our last newsletter, the State Government has announced some system-wide changes to the use of mobile phones in secondary schools.
Under the new policy, all students are required to keep their personal devices ‘off and away’ between the start and end of each school day and while they are attending off-site activities such as camps and excursions.
Student may only access their personal devices during these times if they have received an approved exemption to use the device for a specific, agreed reason.
The aim of this policy is to help promote:
- Safe environments with reduced negative impacts of inappropriate use of devices at school, such as cyberbullying, exposure to harmful content and critical incidents that involve mobile phones
- Classroom environments where teachers can teach and students can learn free from distractions caused by personal use of devices
- Use of breaks as quality time away from screens, encouraging physical activitiy and play and meaningful face-to-face connections with peers
Our Governing Council is keen to move forward with the implementation of this policy as soon as possible and as such, there will be some changes from the beginning of the 2023 school year.
Further specific information about how the policy will be implemented at SEHS will be emailed to you before school commences, however, in the interim, I encourage you to:
- Consider whether your child needs to bring a phone with them to school at all
- Speak with your child about the changes that are on the horizon
- Put some restrictions in place over the holidays so that returning to school is not a huge step at the beginning of 2023.
MATERIALS AND SERVICES CHARGES FOR 2023
Thank you to the families that took the opportunity to vote in the recent Materials and Services Charges poll.
The poll was successful which means that the 2023 Materials and Services Charge of $470 is compulsory and legally recoverable for all year levels.
All families will be invoiced in the new year.
This year, over 40% of our families successfully applied for School Card assistance. If you were eligible this year, we encourage you to apply earlier, rather than later.
FINALLY...
Thank you for your support during 2022.
It's been a year like no other but somehow we all got there and the excellent Year 12 results are testament to what can be achieved in adversity.
Have a wonderful break over the festive season.
